WHAT IS SEX THERAPY
According to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) definition,
Sex Therapy does not involve any physical contact or sexual activity. Sex Therapy is a professional service providing support, counselling and education for adolescents, adults, relationships, and individuals who are experiencing issues or distress relating to sexual health. Sexual Health is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality: It is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Sexual health requires a respectful way to sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe experiences, free of coercion, discrimination, and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all people must be respected, protected and fulfilled. (WHO, 2006a)
- In 2019 WHO has included Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD), also referred to as Sexual Addiction, Sex Addiction, Hyper-sexual Behaviour Disorder, in the new International Classification Of Diseases (ICD) Volume 11, as a subset of impulse control disorder.
WHAT IS SEXUALITY
Sexuality is a natural and central part of being human throughout life and encompasses sex, reproduction, gender, gender roles and identities, sexual orientation, intimacy, eroticism, and pleasure.
Sexuality is experienced, and finds expression, in thoughts, fantasies, desires, beliefs, values, attitudes, behaviours, practices, roles, and relationships.
Although sexuality includes all of these dimensions, not all of them can always be experienced or expressed. Sexuality is vulnerable to many internal and external influences, such as psychological, medical, biological, social, environmental, cultural, political, economical, historical, ethical, religious, spiritual, or legal factors.
